Hey all, I am not sure if many people here set up at shows, but a friend that sets up at most "local" shows was just telling me of one of his friends who also sets up went home missing nearly $8,000 in Proof and Mint Sets. It was a 2 "man" show, him and his wife (Dealers). They (Crooks) had one person keeping each of those two tied up, and then a third person occasionally wanting something. Then whenever the focus went back to the two crooks, the third probably started pocketing things. Hopefully if you set up, this will be kind of a head's up if you haven't been hit yet. I am hoping this isn't going to give anyone else any crazy ideas. I want to know what is going on in people's minds to think that they can just take from anybody they want. One of the worst things I can think of is being stolen from. What you worked for, someone else just takes. If there are any crooks out there reading this, get a job and do it like normal people.
Hi All,
I am 95% sure this is a genuine error from the good old ram.
Can someone please re-assure me the extra 5%. I checked my error article in the CAB but only find something simular and not exactly the same.
Your thoughts are greatly appreciated.
I have no direct connection to the Denver Mint, other than that I am a Denver native, I was born not far from the Denver Mint, and I've visited there several times. So, a couple months ago I drove down to the Mint (on a quiet Sunday) and took several pictures of the building's exterior. The security guards kept a close eye on me (from a distance) as I stuck my camera through the fence to take pictures. Since the Denver Mint wasn't issuing anything for their centennial, I decided that I would! I took those pictures and used them to design (and mint) a centennial token. These can be purchased on Daniel Carr's website.
Hi all, I have noticed a couple posts talking about a registry set. Can you tell me what it is?
Pitted Dies - As is seen in some other Morgan issues, certain 1921 Philadelphia dies became rusted during their use. Concave pits in the die became raised dots on the minted coin. This problem is almost exclusively limited to reverse dies, as they sat at the bottom and were able to hold moisture as it accumulated.
Extensive pitting is seen below the tail feathers, around the wreath and leaves, and around the NE in ONE. Almost the entire reverse shows heavy die polishing.
An interesting feature of this VAM is the top arrowhead. These lines are to be found on at least three other VAMs.
I had to be in at 9am. I planned on going to the bank at lunch and putting them in the safe deposit box. Well they had "employee appreciation day" today and had a large cookout on the outside break area. While I was eating I was telling a co worker how much I enjoyed the Palm Beach show. They started to ask me what i picked up. (most folks there know I collect) so I went in and got the box of coins my manager locked away (so they didn't vanish) and brought them outside. They oohhed and ahhed at the 61 fbl Franklin, I passed it around with my loupe and explained fbl. They really liked the Walker and then asked me what a proof was. I had a 62 proof set with me and explained that too. 2 of them really thought the Oregon Trail was very sharp. I enjoyed show and tell and made it to the bank to tuck them safely away.
