The Design Of This Medal Blew My Socks Off         Monday, May 08, 2006

From 1904 St. Louis Expo ( Worlds Fair )

Learned from a veteran collector this was designed by A A Weinman who designed the Mercury dime in 1916 . He was also a student of Augustus St Gaudens . Hope you enjoy !

Little bit more info from my mentor ;

" This piece is the official award medal of the 1904 St. Louis Exposition and I agree that the design is very attractive. The MCMIV on the obverse is the date in Roman Numerals 1904. The two female figures are Liberty on the left, and an american Indian on the right. The piece is worn, but on the two I had you could see the design on the cloth. Liberty is holding a cloth that is apparently the flag (stars & stripes) the cloth the indian is holding had bees on it. I believe the bees represent productivity."

Is this 1944 Australian Florin a Fake?         Sunday, May 07, 2006

I bought this coin from a dealer who claims it's authentic, but to me it doesn't look it. It appears to have burn marks on it, which actually looks like bronze copper or something similar coming through.

New Australian Coin Purchase | 2001 $10         Thursday, May 04, 2006

Australian $10 Obverse      Australian $10 Obverse

Hi all, I don't post much here "down under" but I thought I would with one of my latest purchases. I stumbled across this coin when buying some of the past issue Austrian Niobium 25 Euros. I really think that this coin is beautiful. Who would have ever thought of putting gold and copper together in a bi-metallic. Although I already own some Aussie coins to qualify for Knighthood, I thought that I would get one to be proud of (all of my others are circulated).

I don't know anything about this coin except for what came with the original packaging. Can anyone tell me more about my new favorite Aussie coin?

Richard Nixon Gold & Silver Coins         Monday, May 01, 2006

Posted by jdheyne

Nixon Gold CoinHello all. I am doing some checking for a friend.

He picked this up... Nixon silver and gold coins??

The gold has "900" on the bottom of the reverse, and the silver has "1000", signifying the metal content?

He showed some people locally, and he was told probably a German-ish mint, possibly when Nixon was visiting there?

Anybody have any ideas?

Nixon Silver CoinAlso, he was told it is probably supposed to be Nov 5, 1968, since they switch the month and day over there. That was the day Nixon was elected.
